We all know how important our data can be specially when it comes to business data. Data backup and data recovery are important parts of running a business. We should realize three things quickly: all computer systems crash, all humans error, and disasters happen when least expected or when we are not prepared for it.

In the article I am going to show you how you can backup your Quickbooks Desktop data online for free. There are multiple free tools to do that, however, I would suggest you to use Google drive or Onedrive (Outlook) as  it is widely used  due to ease of access. The screenshots that I have used is for Onedrive (outlook) but the same can be done  with Google drive as well. You can accomplish the goal of backing up your quickbooks desktop data online in two different steps. Setting up Onedrive

1: Create an Outlook account, Click here to create one.

2: Download one drive and install it. Once installed you will see Onedrive folder on file explorer as shown below

By default you will have Picture, Document and Public folder but my suggestion is to create a dedicated folder for Quickbooks backups as shown in the picture.

That’s it. Now that we are done with stage one, lets move to stage two.

 

Scheduling Auto backup from Quickbooks Desktop.

Things to remember before scheduling auto-back from Quickbooks desktop.

a: If you have multiple Quickbooks file, then you need to individually open every file and schedule the backup for it.

b: make sure the time that you select for autoback to happen during that time your computer should be powered on or else it will skip that backup.

Scheduled backups
  • Go to the File menu and click create copy or  Backup Company to open the backup wizard.
  • Once open select Local Backup and click on Options
  • On Backup Option screen click on browse and select the backup folder under OneDrive that you have created and click on OK as shown on the picture.

  • On the next screen Click Only schedule future backups and then click Next.
  • In the Backup on a schedule section of the window click New.
  • Enter a Description for your scheduled backup. This name appears in your list of scheduled backups so you can easily find it later.
  • Click Browse and select the same backup folder under OneDrive.
  • Optionally, click the checkbox to Number of backups copies to keep and enter a number in the field provided.
  • Click Store Password to open the Store Windows Password window and enter the requested Windows login information. Be sure the login you enter has Windows permission for the location you’ve selected for the backup.
  • Select the time, weekly frequency, and day(s) for the backup to take place. For example, if you want to run your backups daily, select every day of the week and run the task every “1” week.
  • Click OK to return to the previous window. The backup appears in the list in the Backup on a schedule section of the window.
  • Click Finish to close the wizard.

Here you have successfully accomplished the task. Quickbooks will now automatically backup the file on the Onedrive folder as per the instruction and when your Onedrive syncs it saves a copy of the backup file on the cloud server and if you ever need those file simply login to your OneDrive account from anywhere or any computer in the world where you have the backup file. However, the limit on Onedrive or Google drive is 5GB which is enough to keep at-least 3 to 4 months Quickbooks data depending on the size. And in case you need more space, you can check out some paid backup service with some excellent features. Below mentioned are some amazing backup service providers:

    Shopify Vs Bigcommerce:  Which one should you try?

It must be very confusing to choose an online ecommerce store since there are plenty of good options out there in the market. So to make it little simpler for you all, I am posting my reviews on two of the most popular and best ecommerce shop builders in the market – Shopify and Bigcommerce. Shopify was founded in 2006 with their headquarters in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. They have become one of the fastest growing companies in the world and host over 600,000 online stores and its growing every day.

On the other hand, Bigcommerce is slightly newer platform and was founded in 2009 originally from Sydney, Australia but now they have a corporate headquarters in Austin, Texas. They host over 95000 online stores and their popularity is growing each day.

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce are software that allows you to sell products & Service online. This software have made selling online really easy, all you need to do is build an online store, select a template, upload your products, set the prices and vroom you are ready to start. It’s that simple.

In my opinion, Shopify is great for the first time web store owner as it’s easy to use and offers what you need. Bigcommerce is the way to go for more advanced and larger web stores that are past the initial web store stage and where it’s all about conversion rate/recurring customers.

Let’s look at the Pricing first:

Bigcommerce offers 4 pricing plans:

  • Bigcommerce Standard: $29.95 per month
  • Bigcommerce Plus: $79.95 per month
  • Bigcommerce Pro: $249.95 per month
  • Bigcommerce Enterprise: varies depending on requirements

Whereas Shopify offers 5 pricing plans:

  • Lite: $9 per month
  • Basic Shopify: $29 per month
  • Shopify: $79 per month
  • Advanced Shopify: $299 per month
  • Shopify Plus: pricing varies depending on requirements

So with Shopify you can start selling online with as cheap as $9 per month. However, this plan actually doesn’t provide you with a fully functional online store. You can use a “Shopify Button” to sell products online on an existing website. Or else you can use your Facebook page to sell products. You can also use this plan to sell goods offline and use the Shopify backend to manage orders and inventory.

It seems the pricing structure of Shopify and Bigcommerce are quite similar to each other with the exception being Shopify Lite where you can sell goods online at a much cheaper rate.

Apart from pricing there are other factors that you need to consider while choosing an ecommerce store for your precious business – one of them being the Themes or Designs.

Themes:

Themes play a very important role in making or breaking a sale. All of us want our store to look the best. So both Bigcommerce and Shopify offers amazing free as well as paid themes that you can choose from. Shopify provides 10 free themes whereas Bigcommerce has 7 . Shopifys free themes and quite distinct and differ considerably whereas the free themes provided by Bigcommerce are more or less like variants of each other rather than unique designs. Shopify offers not only better looking designs as they have a larger ecosystem of designers but also more free responsive designs. In this day and age, responsiveness is a must when it comes to any website, let alone a web store.

Shopify has more than 100 paid themes and the price range is between $100-$180 and Bigcommerce also has around 100 paid themes and the price range is between $145-$235. Again the paid themes in Bigcommerce are quite similar to each other but in Shopify the themes differ considerably. When it comes to themes Shopify has an edge over Bigcommerce.

Let us look at the Transaction Fee:

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce offer credit card rates that improve with each plan. Shopify users have to pay additional transaction fees on top of any credit card processing rates whenever they use a service provider other than Shopify payments. The additional transaction fees range from 2 %( on Shopify Basic) to 0.5 %( on Shopify Advanced). Whereas Bigcommerce users do not have to any transaction fees no matter which credit card processing provider they choose.

Also to note here Shopify Payments doesn’t provide any seller protection and lot of sellers complain about chargeback. Both Paypal Amazon Pay have seller protection. But in order use them on your Shopify store you will have to pay 2% transaction fee which is not therein Bigcommerce. Bigcommerce has an edge over Shopify here.

E-commerce Tools:

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce provide you with awesome e-commerce tools that will help you to build and grow your store. Shopify offers all the basic tools that are important to build an advanced e- commerce store whereas Bigcommerce offers you more tools “out of the box” (like built in shipping quotes, gift certificates, product reviews and some basic email marketing tools) than Shopify. In their most expensive plan, Shopify offers gift cards, reviews and ratings as “out of the box” features. If you want to take advantages of more tools “out of the box”, then Bigcommerce should be your option.

Apps:

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce have their own App store to help you improve and increase the functionality of your store. These Apps can help you manage inventory, shipping, bookkeeping, etc and also automate a lot of day-to-day tasks that is required to maintain an e-store.

Shopify offers you more than 1400 Apps while Bigcommerce has about 250 Apps. Also Shopify provides different mobile phone Apps. The two main ones are Shopify -{which helps you to manage the basic aspects of your store} and Shopify POS –{which helps you to sell products via Shopify in a physical location}. Bigcommerce used to offer a mobile app but no longer does. This is again Shopify strength over Bigcommerce.

About Annual Sales Limits:

There is a sale limit in Bigcommerce. On the “standard” plan your sales are limited to $50000, on the “plus” plan it is $150,000 and on the “pro” plan it is $400,000, on the Bigcommerce Enterprise it says custom which means its negotiable. These limits are calculated on a trailing 12-month basis. However, no such limits exist on Shopify plans. This can be one of the strongest reasons to choose Shopify over Bigcommerce.

Benefitting from Annual Discounts:

There is something like annual discounts which both Bigcommerce and Shopify offer to their users. Shopify offers a 10% discount if you pay upfront for a year’s service and 20% discount if you pay upfront for two years. However, Bigcommerce provides a 10% discount if you pay upfront for a year’s service on the ‘Pro’ and ‘Plus’ plans.

Hiring a Consultant:

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce offer experts to help you with your online store. These experts are external consultants like designers, developers, marketers that you can hire to grow your business. Shopify have more experts than Bigcommerce who can help you set up your store from scratch. Also the best thing about Shopify is that they list out experts that are geographically closest to you so if you ever want to meet them in person, you can request so. So if want to personally meet your consultant and discuss about your business then Shopify is the place for you.

Both Shopify and Bigcommerce have their strengths and weaknesses and it depends on you to see which one works better for you. If you are a newbie and just starting out, less tech savvy and do not require ‘out of the box’ features but want a great e-commerce store then Shopify is the place for you. But if you are looking for growth, more tech savvy and require a lot more ‘out of the box’ features then go for Bigcommerce. However, we would want you to try out both of them (their free trial periods) and experience them for yourself. Your personal preference matters the most. Both of them offer great features which will help you to grow your business. Trial period for Shopify is 14 days and Bigcommerce is for 15 days. In this article i am going to discuss why its happening and how to identify the point of failure and the fix for it.

first we need to identify if the problem is with the Quickbooks Software or your Quickbooks Company file, In order to check that try opening a sample company file. If the sample file opens fine it clearly means that the problem area is your quickbooks company file and you might have to restore a good backup copy or send it for recovery.  A data file can be damaged because of multiple reasons like power failure, incorrect multi-user setup, human error and many more.

And ff you are getting the same error while opening a sample file as well it means that the problem area is your Quickbooks Software and there could be couple is fixes for it.

Solution 1:

The first step would be to update your quickbooks to the latest release. Again there are two ways to update quickbooks, Automatic & manual. I would suggest to go for the manual update.  Click here to get the latest updates for Quickbooks .

 

Solution 2:

An antivirus can also be a point of failure, disable your antivirus and check if you are able to open your quickbooks successfully or not because at times antivirus software treats some quickbooks components as virus and tries to block then. If disabling your antivirus helps then configure it with Quickbooks allowing full access.

 

Solution 3:

Repair or reinstall your quickbooks. At times repair and reinstall do work but if you really want to save some time then go for a clean install of quickbooks which is a guaranteed fix where in the problem area is the software itself.

 

Following the above troubleshooting steps religiously will surely resolve your issue.
